Since you all ask so nicely

Dear Mike Gapes,

Please will you try to ensure that the Digital Rights Management bill
currently under consideration receives proper debate in the House of
Commons.

The Bill contains a number of measures which will affect the way people
use the internet, and has the potential to cause a great deal of
inconvenience and financial cost to people and organisations involved
in accessing and providing access to the internet.

I am particularly concerned about measures requiring organisations
providing access to the internet to suspend access to users as a result
of third party request, when these organisations do not necessarily
control or have knowledge of what their users are doing. If the Bill is
enacted, all the possible ways organisations could deal with this
requirement have potentially damaging consequences.

The issues here are complex and I do not pretend to possess full
understanding of them. It is all the more important, therefore, that
Parliament should ensure the measures are fully understood and debated
before they are enacted.

Yours sincerely,
