Gas Boilers

Estimate 1: £1,500 to make good defects in the heating installation and service the boiler

Estimate 2: £100 to repair heating installation and service the boiler + £260 per year maintenance and repair agreement

Is this a no-brainer?

And if I say that Estimate 2 is from British Gas does this make a difference?

That rather depends on the age of the boiler! It's not unknown for British Gas to sign someone up to a contract & then refuse to service the boiler because it's over 20 years old!

I have been satisfied with the boiler service arrangements with British Gas. With full HomeCare they service my Boiler, pipes, and even three kitchen appliances. It is a bit like the AA. You think that it is a silly expense while everything is working, and then when it goes wrong you thank god that you have registered with them.

HOWEVER:
They arent quite as responsive as a dedicated local plumber. They are a bit "call centre"-ish. And of course I am just a survey sample of one...

I would want to check whether Estimate 1 includes necessary parts and Estimate 2 doesn't.
