reflections on media

I watched Darwin's Dangerous Idea on television last night. And then later I listened to an episode of BBC Radio's Material World from mid-Feb as a podcast. Today I am reading Stand on Zanzibar.

On the TV the pictures are very pretty, but the dialogue between the visual and the verbal distracts from the presentation of the argument presented.

A well-constricted radio discussion, by contrast, leaves me with a genuine sense of having been involved in the conversation, and the radio conventions are much less intrusive. .

I can have a running conversation with a book, at my own pace.
