Why we should all wonder at the glories of science rather than the glories of God(s). Nicely done, extremely lucid and engaging.

Appreciated his appreciation of our genre: "The best of science fiction seems to me an important literary form in its own right, snobbishly underrated by some scholars of literature."

I seem to recall references to Fred Hoyle's The Black Cloud in The Selfish Gene. I love the title essay in Unweaving the Rainbow and it has become quite the thing to read at atheist funerals.

... and snobbishly underrated, once upon a time, by him, judging from the silence we had when we invited him to the 95 Worldcon....

There's many a slip...let's hope for better luck inviting him to the next one. Though given six-ten years to plan it might be better to invite inviting Prof Marcus du Sautoy or his successor in post of the Charles Simonyi Chair for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford.
