Friday Journal - films

I'm not going to review these, but wanted to note two excellent films I would watch again.

House of Flying Daggers is a tragic love triangle, with beautiful costumes, choreography and landscape.

The Wind Rises is a partial biography of a life lived to an ambiguious end. It also has a tragic love affair. It is an animation by Studio Ghibli, and very beautiful.

(I'm finding that as more and more film plots annoy me the look of the film is becoming the thing that I value.)

I quite liked House of Flying Daggers when I saw it at the cinema. I remember very little about it though.

And I fancy The Wind Rises quite a lot. I saw The Tale of The Princess Kaguya two days ago and that was also beautiful and intriguing.

I don't think we've seen Princess Kaguya - I shall ask the daughter if we have it.

I remember The Wind Rises. My son said "You'll want to see this" and he was right.

I want to tell everyone to watch it.

I forcibly lent it to my parents and they loved it. We did have to tell them that sadly the biographical element is heavily fictionalised.
