* Grab the nearest book.
* Open the book to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST

"The construction of the lengthy missive - recipient unknown - that punctuates this tale, is a focus of this solipsism."
Farah Mendlesohn Rhetorics of Fantasy (talking about The Scar by China Mieville).

Which was only closer than John M Ford's Web of Angels in the same stack because it is a bigger book and the corner stuck out more.

"Rapeseed oil, the best biofuel bet in a temperate climate, yields around 1,200 litres of oil per hectare." I'm not following instructions about posting in my journal because I would be IRREDEEMABLY TEMPTED to use the first complete sentence on p.56 instead, because it's a much more fun and interesting sentence... In fact I'm going to do that. And only you will know I cheated.

I agree, much more amusing. I nobly resisted the temptation to cheat. I did hesitate over the brochure for the Kings Place Autumn season, which some people would apparently decided was a book for this purpose, but it obligingly has only 48 pages.
