In 1985 a bottle of wine supposedly bottled in 1787 and owned by Thomas Jefferson was auctioned for $156,000. In 2008 Benjamin Wallace wrote a book about that bottle, and the other bottles of old wine traded and drunk over the subsequent 30 years. It is a fast read and entertaining.

Morals:
Beware advice from people who benefit financially from giving it.
Don't trust auctioneers quoting authorities.
Best stick to drinking plonk!

As we would undoubtedly do, if we had the opportunity more often.
