Just back from the Science Museum. They've rearranged their reception and the steam engine hall, which was bad before and is arguably worse now. You used to come into a crowded reception area of no interest, but once past that you went straight through between the marvellous, and sometimes working, steam engines, and felt you were in a museum. Now there is plenty of space in the uncrowded reception area but it is still of no interest. In the steam engine hall they've put a Waterstone's to the left, a ticket sales desk in the middle, and opened up right hand wall to the shop. They've left a few steam engines and display cases looking lost and lonely in a space that looks like an airport sales area - no real feel there at all of the museum you have come to visit.

In other news, the IMAX 3D works for me. bohemiancoast - I am amazed!

The overcrowding around the shop and reception area used to be pretty hazardous at peak times, though; I'm not surprised they opened up the space more. And if the Waterstones is specialising in science then it's an innovation; the shop used to be rather inadequate in selling the sorts of books that clever kids are going to want to read after a few hours in the museum.

The last few times we have been to the Science Museum we have picked a specific destination and gone to look at that gallery specifically. The galleries that haven't been much made over are the best.
