On women and sf and awards

First, everyone interested in recent discussions about women and sf should read this:

bidisha-online.blogspot.com/2011/06/literary-women-literary-prizes-not.html

We in sf are not alone.

Edit: And in fact, given those deeply depressing stats we may say that sf is actually doing rather better overall than the literary world in general. We do at least see some women on SF shortlists.

Secondly, I am reading C.J. Cherryh's Regenesis, and thus refute V.S. Naipaul. Cherryh is a woman writer whose woman character - Ari Emory - takes direct responsibility for the future of the human race. Family creation and sustenance is the one of her primary tools for her task.

If you ever try to tell me again that women writers are limited to narrow, domestic themes I shall spit.

Naipaul is an arse, and has been for some considerable time.

Thank you for the link - excellent article, though deeply depressing.
